Ghazal Marvi

Just as Eric Fishel likens painting to meditating in melancholy, the same can be applied to the works of Ghazal Marvi. Her art offers a glimpse into the private lives of young Iranians, a generation that embraces a vibrant nightlife and social scene, despite the constraints imposed by ideological policing. As a magical realist painter, Marvi combines surreal elements to depict the reality of life in Tehran. Her female subjects appear as spirited, playful characters coexisting with immature male counterparts. Through vivid imagery like tropical flora, yachts, colorful umbrellas, and extravagant food and drink, Marvi transforms Tehran into a secluded island, evoking the sensation of an exotic getaway or a life experienced as an immigrant within the city itself.
