Bio

Kazhal Fakhri (b. 1989, Kermanshah, Iran) is a Tehran-based visual artist focused on drawing, printmaking, painting, and ceramics. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran (BA, Painting, 2014; MA, Illustration, 2017) and English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tehran (BA, 2011). In her work, Kazhal explores themes such as the fragility and delicacy of natural phenomena and relevant analogies with human experience.

About

Kazhal Fakhri's artworks primarily address the environmental and social crises in the Middle East. During the protests of 2022, she showcased a large flower installation in a public space, using her gladiolus paintings to symbolize the victims of street incidents. In 2024, her installation featuring extinct cranes evoked collective memories within the art scene of Tehran. Overall, her works emphasize the various ways media can serve as a form of expression.
